The world premiere of the jazz-infused Sea Songs for chorus, strings and soprano saxophone by Chicago’s award winning saxophonist, Jim Gailloreto, praised as “one of the most unique composer-performers putting pen to staff paper today.” Sea Songs was written especially for the Chorale. The program also includes music by French masters Poulenc, Ravel, and Debussy.

Jim Gailloreto is an accomplished composer whose style is an original blending of both jazz and classical music. As an artist he is immersed in the traditions and performance practices of classical music, while simultaneously expanding and exploring all the truest elements of jazz. John Vorrasi, WFC Artistic Director, has selected the texts for “Sea Songs” -- a delightful mix of verse, poetry and texts from playful seaside tunes. “Sea Songs” is an exciting new venture for the Chorale, who are new to performing jazz, and, after hearing Jim Gailloreto’s work, the WFC artistic staff knew he was a natural fit for this new music making.

In 1997, Jim Gailloreto embarked on a new project: Jazz String Quintet, which is an integration of both jazz and classical music written for string quartet and soprano saxophone. Inspired by sources as diverse as Debussy and Ravel to Miles Davis and John Coltrane, composer and saxophonist Jim Gailloreto offers a perfect blend of classical music and jazz: structure and spontaneity. The Jazz String Quintet will join the twenty-four sublime voices of the William Ferris Chorale in performance of “Sea Songs” for a spectacular new sound.
